AHMEDABAD: The chairman of Khyati Hospital, in news for the angioplasty scam involving illegal claims under PMJAY scheme, was arrested at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport Friday after arriving on a direct flight from Dubai.
With the arrest of Kartik Patel, police have caught all nine accused connected to four cases filed after deaths of two of the nine patients who underwent unnecessary angioplasty at the hospital in Nov, ACP Bharat Patel said.
“A lookout circular had been issued. When his passport was scanned, authorities alerted us. A team reached the airport and took him into custody. He was accompanied by his wife. He was the signing authority for the hospital and was responsible for monetary transactions, including those related to PMJAY,” said the ACP.
Patel, along with cardiologist Prashant Vazirani, medical director Sanjay Patolia, and hospital CEO Chirag Rajput, were key individuals named in three FIRs. They have been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, forgery, and criminal conspiracy. Patel has claimed he was in New Zealand at the time of deaths, the ACP said.
