With just weeks to go before the Delhi Assembly elections, political drama has intensified, with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tarun Chugh launching a scathing attack on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal. Chugh accused Kejriwal of “waking up too late” to address public grievances, dubbing the AAP government a “tragedy” for the capital.
Chugh’s sharp jibes
“The people of Delhi have decided they want to get rid of ‘AAP-DA (tragedy),’” Chugh declared, taking a dig at Kejriwal’s governance over the last decade.

Speaking to ANI, he quipped, “Ab pachtave ka hot, jab chidiya chug gayi khet (Don’t cry over spilt milk).” He alleged that Kejriwal ignored key issues like public transport during his tenure but is now shedding “crocodile tears” with election season approaching.
Chugh also criticized Kejriwal’s new proposal for a 50% concession on Delhi Metro fares for students, accusing him of using it as a last-ditch effort to regain public favor. “In the last 10 years, not a single university or school has been built. Now, suddenly, he remembers the metro,” Chugh said, adding that the Supreme Court reprimanded Kejriwal’s government multiple times over delays in the regional rapid transit system.
Congress joins the chorus
The Congress party was quick to join the BJP in criticizing Kejriwal. Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit slammed the metro concession proposal as “irresponsible” and questioned why AAP had failed to implement it during its previous tenure. “This is nothing more than an election gimmick,” Dikshit remarked, accusing Kejriwal of failing to deliver on similar promises in the past.
The political battlefield
The AAP, BJP, and Congress are gearing up for a high-stakes three-way contest in the Delhi elections, scheduled for February 5, with vote counting on February 8. The ruling AAP has announced candidates for all 70 assembly seats, while the BJP has released a list for 59 constituencies. Congress, which dominated Delhi politics for 15 years before AAP’s rise, is hoping to reclaim lost ground after failing to secure any seats in 2020.
