MYSURU: Some unidentified miscreants cut off the tail of a bull calf in the temple town of Nanjangud near Mysuru, leading to tension on Thursday. The incident was reported from the Halladakeri area.
Following the incident, youths in the area held a protest, demanding action against the miscreants. They also demanded a cowshed on the temple premises. The protest was later withdrawn after temple authorities agreed to convert an elephant shed into a temporary byre to house stray bulls.

The injured calf was also kept there.
According to the local administration, this stray calf, which was about a year-and-a-half old, was attacked on Wednesday night. The incident came to light on Thursday morning.
As news spread, vets from the animal husbandry and veterinary services department rushed to the spot and treated the bull.
‘Attack on bulls nothing new’
According to S Chandrashekhar, the district convenor of Mysuru-based Yuva Brigade, the attack and smuggling of bulls donated to the famous Srikanteshwara (Nanjundeswara) Temple are nothing new.
“With no ‘goshala’, bulls donated to the temple by the farmers and devotees keep roaming around the town. They are an easy target for smugglers. We have been demanding a ‘goshala’ for the last few years to save these calves,” he said.
After visiting the site, Mysuru SP N Vishnuvardhana said police registered a suo motu case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. “We have formed two teams for the investigation headed by Nanjangud deputy SP,” he added. L Nagendra, the Mysuru city BJP chief, condemned the brutality on the calf and said it was an attack on people’s sentiments. “Police have failed to prevent such incidents. Several cows were also stolen from Kanne Gowdana Koppalu,” he claimed.
