BAREILLY: A 20-year-old student from Bareilly Polytechnic College in UP allegedly murdered a security guard of a biscuit factory to cover up his theft and also “use the money to win over his girlfriend”.
Ashutosh Kumar alias Ashu, who was arrested on Thursday, told the cops that he stole Rs 55,000 from the guard’s room and bought a sports bike for Rs 32,000 to impress his girlfriend.

He also took her to a restaurant and for shopping with that amount. The cops recovered Rs 21,503 from him.
Police said Kumar targeted the factory in Bareilly’s Parsakhera on Jan 10. He strangled the 55-year-old security guard, Kesar Prasad, to death and stole the amount from his room with the help of an accomplice.
The factory owner, Vineet Kumar Saxena, subsequently filed an FIR at the CB Ganj police station. The CCTV footage was examined and a room inside the factory with a broken lock was found. Initially, the cause of the guard’s death was unclear and the police preserved the viscera. Later, CCTV footage helped the cops to unearth the crime.
During questioning, Kumar, a resident of Dibna village in Meerganj, revealed that he passed his intermediate exams with 77% marks and committed the crime since he had no money to marry his girlfriend. His father, a contractor, was married twice. He used to visit the factory with his father and also worked there for some time.
Bareilly’s SP City Manush Pareek said, “Multiple teams were formed and evidence was collected. Forensic experts found fingerprints from the spot and the CCTV cameras led us to Kumar, who was booked under BNS section for murder. He has confessed, and has been sent to jail.”
