NEW DELHI: Paarl Royals’ wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik produced a jaw-dropping, one-handed catch that left cricket fans and commentators in awe during the SA20 clash against MI Cape Town at Boland Park.
Known for his sharp reflexes and safe hands, Royals keeper Karthik proved why he is considered one of the finest glovesmen in the game.
The incredible moment came in the fifth over of MI Cape Town’s innings when Azmatullah Omarzai attempted a flick to the on-side off Dayyaan Galiem’s short-of-a-length delivery.
The ball nipped away slightly, taking a thick edge off the closed bat face. Standing behind the stumps, Karthik dived full stretch to his right, snatching the ball mid-air with just his right hand.
While the impact of the dive caused the ball to momentarily pop out, Karthik displayed quick thinking and unmatched presence of mind to clasp it against his chest, securing a stunning dismissal.
Watch:
Azmatullah Omarzai’s brief innings ended at 13 runs off 11 balls, giving Galiem his first wicket and the Royals an early breakthrough.
The dismissal set the tone for Paarl Royals, who had opted to bowl first.
Despite efforts from Rassie van der Dussen, who top-scored for MI Cape Town with a well-paced 91not out off 64 balls, and Reeza Hendricks’ 30, Cape Town could only post 158 for 4 in their 20 overs.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman stood out with the ball, taking two crucial wickets for 27 runs.
