NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal filed his nomination for the upcoming assembly elections from the New Delhi assembly constituency on Wednesday. He urged voters to base their decision on work instead of “abuses.”
Before filing his nomination, Arvind Kejriwal, along with his wife Sunita Kejriwal, visited Hanuman and Valmiki temples to offer prayers. He then led a march from the AAP office to the New Delhi district magistrate’s office to submit his nomination papers. Several AAP workers accompanied him, carrying party flags.
After filing his papers, the former Delhi chief minister expressed confidence in his party’s chances of winning assembly elections, saying, “AAP will form the government with full majority.” He also said, “I want to request the people of Delhi to vote based on work and not abuses.”
Criticizing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Kejriwal said the party lacked a clear vision, a chief ministerial candidate, and a plan for governance. “They are not telling what work they will do in the next five years. People of Delhi cannot be bought with a pair of shoes, people are seeing what the BJP is doing,” he said.
Regarding reports of a threat to his life from a pro-Khalistani group, Kejriwal said, “Jako rakhe saiyan maar sake na koye. God is with me. One lives as long as their lifeline. The day one’s lifeline ends, God calls them.”
Meanwhile, Sunita Kejriwal said that the people of Delhi are aware of who can provide better leadership and governance. “People know who can provide leadership. So, people will decide,” she said.
Kejriwal has represented the New Delhi constituency since 2013. His opponents this time are BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit.
Voting for the 70-member Delhi Assembly will take place on February 5, and the counting of votes will be held on February 8.
