Elon Musk added fuel to the collective outrage against Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass Saturday as he shared a video of Barack Obama praising Bass in 2022 saying that he was confident that Bass would be an outstanding mayor of LA. Sharing the viral video on X, Musk wrote “Coulda had Caruso” referring to billionaire Rick Caruso who ran unsuccessfully as a Democrat for Los Angeles mayor. Caruso has emerged as a top critic of the administration’s handling of the situation. He said there was no water coming out of the fire hydrants due to which the fires raged uncontained. Karen Bass was not even in the country and she did not return from her trip to Ghana any sooner.
Kaen Bass’ closed-door meeting with LAFD chief: Drama unfolds
Los Angeles Fire chief Kristin Crowley hugged her staff goodbye before entering a closed-door meeting with the mayor as she was certain that she was going to be fired. It was not known what happened at the meeting as Crowley did not lose her job. Daily Mail cited a source close to Crowley’s office and said that she told everyone goodbye because she knew that she would be fired in the meeting,
“When she was summoned into the meeting, it was with the direct purpose to fire her. Whatever happened in that meeting, minds got changed. Either Bass realized it would be suicide to fire her, and came to her senses, or Crowley talked her out of it. She came back in the office briefly, told her staff “I’m not fired yet” and went into a meeting with all her chiefs,” the report said.
The meeting came after Crowley blamed the mayor’s cuts to her department and said they failed her as the fire department was not properly funded.
The blame game is on as the Palisades, Eaton, Hurst, and Kenneth Fires are still out of control in Los Angeles four days after they began ripping across the country, killing at least 11 people, displacing nearly 200,000 and destroying as many as 10,000 structures.
