HYDERABAD: Cops who were probing the case of a woman who went missing 40 days ago, found that she was murdered by her in-laws. The accused were upset and held a grudge that she married their son 20 years ago.
Shamshabad police said that M Suresh, in November, approached them claiming that his wife, M Dalli, 32, was missing and despite making efforts to trace her for long, he could not find her.
Suresh suspected the role of his mother, Tulasi, and father, Ananthi.
Officials took the couple into custody for interrogation. After sustained questioning, the couple admitted that Dalli was murdered by Tulasi two months ago.
Prior to the murder, Tulasi made phone calls to the victim and asked her to meet. When the victim came to Sathamrai, Tulasi offered her toddy, which was laced with poison. Subsequently, she called Ananthi, and they both attacked her with a stone.
To screen the evidence, they took her body to an agricultural field, where they worked, and buried it. “Based on their confession, we went to the location and exhumed the dead body,” Shamshabad police said.
The accused said 20 years ago that the victim got married to Suresh against their wishes. Since then, they bore a grudge against her. Suresh and Dalli have two children.
“It was one of the children who told his father Suresh that Dalli was last seen talking to his mother Tulasi. This made Suresh suspect his parents,” police said.
The couple were arrested on Thursday on the charge of murder and screening the evidence. The accused are agricultural labourers.
