NEW DELHI: A day after the Election Commission declared dates for Delhi assembly polls, the political atmosphere in the chilly capital appeared scorching up, with ruling AAP and the rival BJP going at each another’s throat, particularly over one issue. House.
In a bid to counter the BJP’s “Sheesh Mahal” allegations, senior AAP leaders Sanjay Singh and Saurabh Bharadwaj on Wednesday reached outside the vacant government bungalow, which was allotted to AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal during his chief ministership.
The leaders said they visited the bungalow to “debunk” the claims that the bungalow was renovated at an inflated cost and that it had extravagant amenities.
While the AAP leaders stood outside the bungalow in a stand-off with Delhi police, Dehli BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva reached CM Atishi’s house in AB-17 Mathura Road, questioning her on why she wanted to relocate to “Sheesh Mahal” if she already had an allotted bungalow.
As the BJP stepped up its salvo around “Sheesh Mamal” by releasing a new video against Kejriwal, the countered the BJP by calling the PM’s house a “Raj Mahal”.

AAP’s invites to CM house

AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and Delhi minister Saurabh Bhardwaj accompanied the media on a tour of the chief minister’s residence, which the BJP claims was turned into a “Sheesh Mahal” during Kejriwal’s tenure.

The standoff

Singh and Bhardawaj were stopped from entering the Delhi CM’s official residence outside which police had set up barricades and deployed personnel in front of the 6, Flagstaff Road, bungalow, stopping the AAP leaders from entering the premises.
When asked if they had sought permission to visit the house, the AAP leaders told ANI: “Why should we need permission to enter the chief minister’s residence?”
“Who has instructed you to stop us? I am a minister and I am here for an inspection. How can you stop me and on whose orders? Have you received directions from the lieutenant governor? He is the only authority above my position,” Bharadwaj was heard telling an official.

Delhi BJP chief reaches CM Aitishi’s house

Virendra Sachdeva asked why the Delhi CM wanted to move to the bungalow where Kejriwal stayed as the chief minister when she already had an allotted bungalow at Mathura Road.
“This bungalow is allotted to Atishi Marlena who is the CM of Delhi. I want to ask when this bungalow is allotted to you, then why do you want to live in Sheesh Mahal? When Sheesh Mahal was allotted to you, you did not reply for three months. As per our information, you did not live here. Everyone knows who live here. If you don’t live in Kalkaji, then who lives there? I want to ask how many bungalows you want? When Sanjay Singh, Satyendar Jain, Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia came out of jail, they first went to Sheesh Mahal. Why didn’t show the Sheesh Mahal then?” Sachdeva told PTI.

‘Here to find golden commode’

Saurabh Bharadwaj said he was there to find the golden commode, which the the Delhi BJP chief had claimed was one of the things missing after the bungalow was vacated by Kejriwal
Bharadwaj further said: “I will try to find out where is the Alishan Swimming Pool, 6 Flagstaff Road. I was told that there are gold commodes in the washroom. I will try to find out where is the golden commode.”

AAP’s ‘Raj Mahal’ counter

After being denied entry into the CM’s house, Saurabh Bharadwaj and other AAP leaders headed to the Prime Minister’s residence and challenged the BJP to show the PM’s house to the public.
“We came here to conclude this argument of ‘tera ghar, mera ghar’. We said that the PM residence and CM residence should both be shown to the people. So, we came here,” Bharadwaj told ANI.
Sanjay Singh also accused the BJP of making baseless allegations about luxury amenities at the CM house, including a “golden toilet,” swimming pool, and mini bar.
The AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP further claimed that the AAP delegation, which had arrived to inspect the property, was prevented from entering the premises. “But, they didn’t allow us to see and stopped us outside ‘Raj Mahal’.
Now, we are heading back,” he added, referring to the Prime Minister’s official residence as “Raj Mahal.”

BJP calls it ‘example of anarchy’

BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi called standoff of the AAP leaders with the police personnel deployed outside the Delhi CM’s bungalow as a “clear display of anarchy”.
“The reality of the monument of corruption is coming before the people… The sequence of events unfolding today and the characteristics being showcased by AAP MP Sanjay Singh and Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, no matter what they do, they will not be able to save Arvind Kejriwal’s museum of corruption, the ‘sheesh mahal’… Whatever they have done today, is a clear display of anarchy,” Trivedi told ANI.
The BJP Rajya Sabha MP further said: “Today, whatever the AAP has done is a glaring example of their irresponsible, insane and anarchic behaviour.”
