BENGALURU: An eight-year-old boy was killed and his father injured after a BBMP garbage truck collided with their two-wheeler near Thanisandra railway bridge Saturday afternoon. Following the incident, a mob set the truck on fire, accusing BBMP drivers of rash driving in the area.
The deceased boy is K Iman Mutaki. His father, Khader Ali, a resident of Ashwathnagar in Telecom Layout Road, works with a private firm in Manyata Tech Park.
The accident occurred at 12.10pm when Ali and Iman were on their way home. According to police, the truck, driven by Kodanda, rear-ended Ali’s two-wheeler. As a result, Iman, who was riding pillion, fell on the right side and came under the front wheels of the truck. He died instantly.
Kodanda has been arrested and tests showed he was not under the influence of alcohol. Police said they are searching for the contractor managing the truck.
Residents raised concerns over frequent movement of BBMP trucks in the area, citing multiple accidents. Earlier this year, two sisters riding a gearless scooter were killed when a BBMP truck ran over them. “We have filed several complaints with the authorities, urging them to train drivers to drive more carefully, but nothing has changed,” said residents.
