4 killed as tempo tyre burst leads to multi-vehicle crash in Maharashtra

THANE: Four people, including a six-month pregnant woman and her five-year-old daughter, died early on Wednesday on the Mumbai-Nashik national highway after the bus they were travelling by met with an accident.
As many as 15 people were also injured in the accident, out of which condition of four is critical. They are undergoing treatment at the Ulhasnagar Central and Thane Civil hospitals.
The deceased have been identified as Rohini Hyalinge (27), who was pregnant, her five-year-old daughter Pari, Piyush Patil (33) and his wife Vrunda (31). Rohini’s other daughter, Sai (3) has sustained serious injuries and her condition is critical.
The Hyalinges are residents of Kalyan, while the Patils are from Badlapur. According to the police, the incident took place on the flyover located at Ghateghar in Shahapur taluka.
The accident occurred around 4 am when the driver of a tempo lost control over his vehicle owing to a tyre burst. The tempo then crossed the median and hit three vehicles, including the luxury bus, coming from the opposite direction.
Out of the four deceased, three had died on the spot while five-year-old Pari died while undergoing treatment at the Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar.
The locals informed Shahpur police about the accident following which a team was sent to the spot. The injured were rushed to the Shahpur Primary Health Centre where the doctors declared three people dead. Out of the 15 injured, 11 were discharged from hospital after administering first-aid.
Doctor Salman Sheikh from Shahapur primary health centre said, “Three people, who were brought dead, had died due to haemorrhagic shock and internal damage.”
According to the police, most of the injured were travelling in the luxury bus. Ganesh Sakale, manager of the company operating the bus, said, “The bus was travelling from Jalgaon to Thane.”
The accident also led to a traffic jam and the police had to call a crane to clear the vehicles damaged in the accident. The police have registered an offence against the tempo driver who was also injured in the incident.
Inspector Jitendra Thakur from Shahapur police station, while talking to TOI, said, “Primary probe has revealed that the tempo driver was driving at full speed. Further probe is on.”
