31 students hospitalised after having hostel food in Telangana

HYDERABAD: A total of 31 students required medical attention after falling ill due to food consumption at their hostel in Karimnagar on Tuesday.
All students were discharged after receiving treatment and their condition was reported as stable.
The incident occurred after the students of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule BC Welfare Residential Gurukul at Sharma Nagar ate dinner on Jan 6. Several students began experiencing symptoms of illness, including diarrhoea and vomiting. They were quickly taken to the govt hospital during the night. By morning, more number of students complained of stomach aches, prompting their transfer to the hospital as well.
The meal served to the students that evening included cauliflower curry. According to the authorities, out of the 400 students, 31 fell ill, and an investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the illness.
Dr G Veera Reddy, superintendent of govt general hospital in Karimnagar, informed the director of medical education that 31 students, aged between 11 and 15 years, were admitted to the hospital with complaints of vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain. He added, “Treatment was administered to all the children, and their condition is stable.” Of the 31, 23 students were discharged, while eight others were kept under observation and are expected to be discharged soon.
Union minister of state for home and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay expressed concern over the incident. “I am concerned about the incident in which 23 Gurukul students in Karimnagar fell ill due to suspected food poisoning,” he said on X.
