NEW DELHI: On the night of Jan 19, a Delhi Police team patrolling near a graveyard in Timarpur, discovered a brutally murdered body of a 21-year-old man. The body was unrecognisable, with dogs having eaten parts of the carcass.
Police sprang into action, collecting evidence and inspecting the crime scene, while also analysing footage from nearby CCTV cameras. As the investigation progressed, they faced a challenging task: identifying the deceased.
Hunting for clues, the cops conducted inquiries about missing persons in the area and were able to identify the victim as 21-year-old Shamshuddin, a meat shop worker from Sonia Vihar.
Upon further investigation, locals in the area revealed that Shamshuddin had been involved in a bitter dispute with two acquaintances, Mohammed Anas and Sahil, over a mobile phone sale. The two men were last seen with Shamshuddin, and their mobile phone locations confirmed this.
Through technical surveillance, the police traced the duo to Hyderabad. A team led by ACP Nirav Patel, along with inspectors Pankaj Tomar and Praveen Kumar, quickly travelled there. After a meticulous search of over 250 houses in a crowded locality, they zeroed-in on the suspects and arrested them.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed and provided details about the crime. Shamshuddin had given his mobile phone to Sahil to sell, but Sahil neither sold the phone nor gave Shamshuddin any money. This led to a confrontation. One day, their arguments escalated when Shamshuddin forced Sahil to pose like a chicken and recorded a video, threatening to make it viral. This humiliation led Sahil to conspire with Anas, a mechanic, to murder Shamshuddin using a knife and stones on Jan 16, said police.
“Sahil’s anger and humiliation festered for days. The video became a constant source of resentment. It injured Sahil’s pride, driving him to exact revenge. This led to him hatching a deadly conspiracy with his associate Anas to kill Shamshuddin,” said DCP (North) Raja Banthia.
Sahil and Anas, both 22 yrs, had a history of drug addiction and criminal activity and were repeat offenders, said police. They also recovered key evidence, including blood-stained knife, and stones.
