KOTTAYAM: Two more arrests were recorded in the case related to the alleged rape and sexual abuse of a dalit girl in Pathanamthitta on Tuesday. Shinu George, 23, and Prajith Kumar, 24 were taken into custody from their houses.
As many as 44 of the 58 accused persons have been arrested so far. Police said the investigation was going on, and the remaining accused persons would be arrested soon.
The first case was registered in Elavumthitta station on Jan 10. The majority of the accused persons were arrested over the following four days. Twenty nine cases have been registered in four police stations in the district based on the statements of the 18-year-old survivor.
Those who are left to be arrested are nine accused in cases registered in Elavumthitta station, four in Pathanamthitta, and one in Malayalappuzha station. One of the accused in Elavumthitta is in jail in connection with a Pocso case.
Meanwhile, police will initiate steps to bring back one of the accused from abroad.
The majority of the accused are either teenagers or in their early 20s. This includes classmates and seniors of the student, the police said.
