2 dead, 8 injured as 'drunk' driver goes on rampage in Jaipur
At least eight others sustained injuries. Locals apprehended the driver and handed him to the police. Initial investigations suggest the driver was intoxicated. Police are investigating further. Senior officers visited the injured at the hospital.

JAIPUR: An SUV rammed into multiple pedestrians and vehicles in Nahargarh area late Monday night, killing two people and injuring at least 8 others. Locals quickly surrounded the vehicle and handed over the driver to police.
Additional DCP (north) Bajrang Singh, “Two people died in the crash — Avdesh Pareek (37) and Mamta (50); others are undergoing treatment,” Singh said. Police also received reports that the same vehicle hit other cars and a pedestrian on MI Road.

Police said preliminary probe suggests the driver was heavily drunk. An officer said the death toll could increase as some injured are in a critical condition. Senior police officers and Kishanpole MLA Amin Kagzi reached the hospital to check on the condition of the victims.
“We saw nine injured people being taken to the hospital. A woman and her brother are in serious condition, and a 17-year-old girl is also critical,” Kagzi said, adding that three of the injured are in particularly grave condition.
Hawa Mahal MLA Balmukundacharya said the driver was so drunk that he was barely concsious. “The driver also hit a person on the MI Road, the same car had also hit people in Galta Gate area,” he said.
Eyewitnesses said the SUV seemed out of control as it sped through the narrow lanes of Nahargarh, hitting several people and damaging parked vehicles.
The incident attracted a large crowd at the spot and later at the SMS Hospital, where the injured were taken for treatment. ACP (Kotwali) Anoop Singh confirmed that the driver has been detained and the car seized. Dilkush Kachotiya, who was returning from the Santoshi Mata Temple in Purani Basti, said the locals heard the screeching vehicle mowing down people and vehicles on the road.
“Several people were flung from bikes, others were thrown off the road and landed on the pavements,” he said.
