The incident came to light at approximately 8pm on Thursday when a mess boy reached Abhijeet’s room to provide a food tiffin. When he did not respond, the mess boy, along with 2-3 other boys from the hostel, forcibly opened the gate and discovered Abhijeet hanging from the ceiling, assistant sub inspector at Vigyan Nagar police station Lal Singh Tanwar, who arrived at the spot on information, told TOI on Friday morning.
Upon notification of the incident, the police reached the hostel room, retrieved the body, and placed it in the mortuary for a post-mortem examination to be conducted after the arrival of his family members, who were informed of the tragedy, the ASI said.
No suicide note was discovered from the room, and the motive behind the extreme step by the teen was yet to be ascertained, he further said.
The ceiling fan in the hostel room was not equipped with an anti-suicide device, which is made mandatory in guidelines by the district administration in an effort to prevent suicide by hanging.
