RAJKOT: In a stunning revelation, the suicide of a Class 10 student due to alleged mental harassment by a school principal has come to light in Kutch, four days after she ended her life on Jan 17.
Following the recovery of the suicide note, the police booked the principal of the govt school in Bhimsar village, some 60 km from the district headquarters Bhuj, on charges of abetment, with the family alleging that mental torture led to the girl’s extreme step.
The 15-year-old girl hanged herself with a dupatta at her house. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. The family proceeded with her burial, reportedly unaware of the legal procedures that are carried out after an unnatural death.
On Jan 21, her brother was sorting through her belongings when he stumbled upon a letter which turned out to be suicide note purportedly written by her. Her father identified her handwriting. She wrote that the principal was mentally torturing her by hurling sarcastic comments and frequently expressing ‘regret that she allowed her to pass.’ The girl further wrote that she couldn’t take the harassment anymore and was compelled to end her life.
The principal was booked on the complaint lodged by the deceased’s father late on Wednesday night.
Sagar Bagmar, Superintendent of Police Kutch (East), told TOI: “We are investigating the content of the suicide note, which will also be sent for forensic analysis to ascertain if the handwriting was that of the girl. Further action will be taken based on forensic and postmortem reports.”
